King's Peak
Clark likes to hike to the top of King's Peak. It is the highest point in Utah at 13,528 feet. He was about 14 the first time he made the ascent. He does this most summers. He has gone with scout groups, his sons and daughters, other family members, and friends. This year it was with Guy Collett and his son Carlton. They drive to the trail head at Henry's Fork in Wyoming and hike to the base of King's the first day. Up and down the peak on the second day. Out and drive home on the third day. Once or twice I have taken them to a drop off point and they hike in and across the Uinta's and I pick them up some where on this side. He LOVES to hike.
Clark and his two best girl friends. Each hike he tries to get a photo in front of a waterfall. I am impressed at how many falls they find.
About 5 years ago Clark hiked into the Grand Canyon with a friend that was very pro ultra light back packing. At that point I made him a back pack. The empty pack weighs 6 pounds less than his regular pack with about the same carrying capacity. We also made him a sleeping bag and some other light weight items. When he got home from that hike he found the book describing this tarp/net tent. He sent for the kit and wanted me to sew it for him. About 2 years ago I finally got started and got the tarp mostly finished. About the first of June this year he asked if there was any way I could finish the project for him to take on this hike. They were going to leave on Thursday morning and Monday night I finally finished. It is so light and water repellant. The tarp is tied between two trees/sticks. Then a few small tent pegs hold it out. The net tent is suspended from the tarp. It did a great job of keeping mosquitos and other bugs out. He was very pleased with the completed project. Me too. One less unfinished project on my shelf!!

This is "The Chute". Never having made the hike, I have been told this is probably the hardest part. So steep and it is all on slippery rock.
Clark, Carlton, and Guy (oh yeah, Amber and Sasha) at the top of King's Peak.
Also at the top. They were not alone. At one point there were more than 40 people at the top at the same time. Needless to say, you would have to try to get lost. The trail is very well traveled.
Sasha proved to be an excellent pack dog. She carried the food for her and Amber on the way in and Clark's tent on the way out. The wild flowers were abundant and beautiful.
I am glad he has friends and family that are willing to go with him. Thanks to all of you who have shared these special times with him.
