Webelos Scouts
Clark's calling in our ward is the Webelos Scout leader. 10 year old boys. I am his assistant. We recently worked on the scientist activity badge. It brought back so many memories of our own children at home. They could -- and did -- get away with many things in the name of science. "But it was a scientific experiment Dad." Our two scouts and super den chief (a 14 yr old scout) had a wonderful time with Clark making messes and and learning scientific stuff.
We wanted them to earn the astronomy belt loop and as part of that they needed to focus a telescope. As you can see, Clark's scope is not a tiny one. Of course, the clouds did not cooperate to set up outside so he set it up in the basement with the hope they could focus on the neighbors porch light. "A" for effort sweetheart. The boys did get their belt loop.
The next badge we have been working on is the craftsman. Several wood projects that took up a lot of time. Regular weekday meetings, plus one Saturday. Each boy made a tool box, recipe holder, and a pinewood derby stand. They were so proud of themselves and I didn't get a photo of all the finished projects. Rats.
The agony of hammer on thumb instead of hammer on nail.
One of the other projects they did was to make flag stands. The new stands are much nicer that the unstable ones we were using.
