Ruby Slippers

Yesterday was the annual Area Women's Conference. The guest speaker was LDS singer/songwriter, Hilary Weeks. Her music has inspired and lifted me for years before I ever saw her perform live. I am a regular attender at BYU Women's Conference. The Thursday night event of that conference is a musical concert of LDS artists that record for Shadow Mountain/Deseret Book. Hilary has been the MC for that many times. She has a delightful sense of humor and keeps the crowd laughing. Then crying with the touching messages she weaves into her music. As usual, I ramble. Yesterday she spoke and sang for a standing room only crowd at the Vernal Middle School Auditorium. As I expected, it was an awesome day. When asked, I can't really tell you a specific thing that I gained, but the whole experience was uplifting and joyful. Thank you to Sister Weeks for blessing my life with her talent. Here is the link to her fun blog. http://hilaryweeks.com/blog/

The opening speaker was the sponsoring stake's Relief Society President. I have to say, her remarks did not add anything to the spirit of the day in my opinion. She rambled (sounds like someone else I know) about the weather, a vacation that involved tornadoes, the Wizard of Oz, and some other things. A dear friend agreed with me somewhat. This morning at church she came to me and said, "I have thought a great deal about her remarks yesterday and I have decided that I WILL get something from them and this is what I have decided. Dorothy had the ruby slippers all along and therefore the power to achieve the desires of her heart. We as, daughters of God, have our own ruby slippers within us that enable us to achieve the desires of our hearts."
