Corps of Discovery - June & July

As I've mentioned before, Clark has initiated a monthly ward outdoor activity. He calls it the Corps of Discovery, after the Lewis & Clark Expedition also called the Corps of Discovery. I participated in both the June and July outings. For June we hiked up to the Grizzly Ridge Yurt. Round trip was about 5.2 miles. It took us almost 3 hours to go up and a little more than 1 1/2 hours to come down. I would like to say it was because of the 2 year old with us that it took so much time going up, but that would not be totally truthful. It was a beautiful day. From this angle the yurt and patio look very unlevel, but when you got up on the patio, of course, it was completely level. The Forest Service rents this and several other yurts year round. They provide beds (no bedding), a cook stove with pots and utensils, and a heating stove with wood.

The activity for July was a road trip to the Upper Stillwater Dam, northwest of Altamont, UT. Photos just can't do it justice. It looks like a beautiful lace table cloth. This is the second time Clark and I have been there. We were happy to take a few others with us to enjoy it this year. It only comes over the spillway during very high runoff years. We happened to have Mick, Victoria, and Kade with us.
